What sport do you participate in?
Running/ Gym
What is your greatest sporting achievement?
In January I decided to start Parkrun. I finished the 5km first attempt and I haven’t looked back since. Very proud of myself.
When was the first time that you realised that your sport was becoming your passion?
I’ve always loved sport. When I was younger I played representative basketball, netball and tennis. Now I running in my passion. I love
Pushing myself as far as I can.
What is your favourite part of competing?
Right now, finishing what I set out to do is always my greatest achievement. Getting a PB is so satisfying but I’m just happy that I’m out there making a change and adding years to my life by not giving up.
What does a standard days training consist of?
Right now I’m training for the 10km course at Melbourne Marathon in October. Every month until then I will add a kilometre. I do 5kms 3-7 times a week, weight training at the gym and use my sons swimming lessons as my recovery.
What is the most important aspect of your training?
Listening to my body but pushing through what my mind tells me. I know I can always do more. So I just keep going. I’m improving my quality of life which has a positive ripple through my family, friends and everything else in between.
What does a standard post-event recovering consist of?
Lots of water to stay hydrated, ice/heat and fisiocrem. Being a larger person there’s not a walk or run that doesn’t end with pain currently. So it’s very important for me to look after those niggles. Amen fisiocrem!
What is your ultimate sporting goal?
The end game is to complete a full marathon. So my goals are to run a full 5km without stopping, complete 10km event, half marathon and full marathon. Watch this space!
Who is your sporting idol and why?
Growing up and still now it’s Michael Jordan. Yes, he was a very talented player but he never gave up. Winning or losing he played the game to the best of his ability until that game was over.
I also am obsessed with anyone out there attempting and completing marathons. I admire their strength to push through and achieve such a sensational accomplishment.
What advice would you give to someone that is interested in taking up your sport?
Don’t wait! If it’s what you want to do – start now. We spend too much time deferring dreams and goals. It’s better to try and keep trying instead of not trying at all.
What is the biggest challenge you face when competing?
As a larger athlete I deal with a lot of pain due to a heavy load (which is getting smaller thankfully). I just listen to my body and push to my limitations without giving up. As I know when I finish the sense of accomplishment far outweighs anything else.
What’s your favourite thing about fisiocrem (‘that it’s free’ is not the correct answer!)?
The relief it gives me! The fisiocrem community is so supportive and encouraging. I feel so blessed to be a part of it.
