fisiocrem takes five with… Luke

What is your greatest sporting achievement?

My proudest sporting achievement to date is podiuming at the last two National Schools Triathlon Championships and qualifying for two world championships in twelve months.

When was the first time that you realised that your sport was becoming your passion?

Not until really recently when my mum complained that it wasn’t normal to be as excited as I was – jumping up and down with excitement – at 3.00am to be racing.

What is your favourite part of competing?

I love getting to catch up with my friends and push the body as far as possible.

What does a standard days training consist of?

Most mornings start with a two hour swim or cycle, home and ready for school. After school is usually 1-2 hours of swimming or running. Generally a massage/roll/stretch in the evening before bed.

What is the most important aspect of your training?

Making sure that I keep the enjoyment and love what I’m doing. The variety of sports and sticking to a routine that pushes my limits so that I can improve within myself.

What does a standard post-event recovering consist of?

A warm-down jog followed by any type of food I can get my hands on. Once home I rub in my fisiocrem, stretch, rehydrate and write my blog which can be found at thelukeharvey.com.

What is your ultimate sporting goal?

I would love to ultimately represent my country at the Olympics and then move onto Iron Man Triathlons (longer distance).

Who is your sporting idol and why?

My sporting idols would be the Ironmen of the Sharks Triathlon Club as they have achieved what I aim to and are constantly providing helpful hints and advice.

What advice would you give to someone that is interested in taking up your sport?

Firstly, give it a go. Survive the swim, ride like you stole it, and run like you are being chased. You don’t need to have “all the gear” to go fast, it is the engine that makes it work.

What is the biggest challenge you face when competing?

My largest challenge would be my own nerves and expectations. I need to zone out before races and be casual. The other challenge is finding enough food afterwards! Apparently I eat a lot.

What’s your favourite thing about fisiocrem (‘that it’s free’ is not the correct answer!)?

It’s ability to help me recover and doubling as a decongestant of the nose! I love the smell and the lasting feeling.
